This version includes the following notable changes:

• You can configure the Kubernetes metadata fields included with each log record. By default, only essential fields such as pod_name, namespace_name, and container_name are kept. This helps reduce the amount of metadata stored with each log and reduces storage costs. For more information see Enabling the Kubernetes filter to enrich logs with Kubernetes metadata.

• The ability to add custom configurations to all sections.

  Each of the service, parsers and pipeline (inputs, processors, filters and outputs) can optionally be configured with additional settings that are not necessarily exposed with the default configurations.

  The following configurations can be used for more advanced configurations if necessary:

  • additionalServiceOptions
  • additionalKubeLogInputProcessors
  • additionalInputs
  • additionalFilters (use additionalKubeLogInputProcessors if possible)
  • additionalOutputs
  • additionalParsers

• Enhanced system file processing of /var/log (for example, syslog, messages, kubelet.log).

  Use the systemLogs configuration to replace the additionalLogSourcePaths configuration to get better details for your host files:

  • Timestamps are parsed according to the format of the syslog files.
  • The Kubernetes filter is skipped which will reduce warnings in the logs and improve performance.
  • In IBM Cloud Logs the subsystemName is the name of the host filename without the path.
  • In IBM Cloud Logs the applicationName is the hostname of the node.
  • The cluster name is still recorded in kubernetes.cluster_name to be consistent with the container logs for filtering.

• Multiline patterns are easier to configure.

  The enableMultiline: true option can be used in conjunction with the multilinePreprocessor to override the default multiline processor to better fit your situation.

• Option to skip the Kubernetes filter

  The enableKubernetesFilter: false option can be used to bypass the Kubernetes plug-in. This will mean that some of the Kubernetes metadata will be unavailable and some of the advanced parsing features provided by the Kubernetes filter, such as using container annotations to control the parser, will be unavailable.

• After an initial successful test of the connection between the Logging agent and IBM Cloud Logs, all failed log transmissions are retried, regardless of the error received.

• Fixed a bug when defaultMetadata is set in the values.yaml file that resulted in an invalid configuration.

This version includes the following notable changes:

• Updated Fluent Bit to version 3.2.10
• It is now possible to configure the agent to use proxies.
• The helm chart provided for IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud now use the Fluent Bit yaml-based configuration files. This replaces the classic configuration which will be deprecated by Fluent Bit at the end of 2025. The helm values.yaml files used with helm versions before 1.6.0 are compatible with 1.6.0. Users that customize their configurations might need to take actions before applying this version of the helm chart. If you are editing the config map files after deploying the helm chart then you will need to make changes to your process. There are additional configuration values introduce with 1.6.0 that give more flexibility in your agent configuration. Backward compatibility: You can still use your existing logs-values.yaml file from version 1.5.x with version 1.6.0. The transition is designed to be non-disruptive.

Deprecated The classic configuration mode will be officially unsupported by Fluent Bit by the end of 2025. We recommend migrating to the YAML format as soon as possible to stay aligned with future updates. You can continue to use the previous versions of the Helm charts that were based on the classic configuration mode with newer versions of the Fluent Bit agent, but by the end of 2025 the classic configuration mode will be unsupported by Fluent Bit.

• Enables per-message acknowledgements.
